Sweet Family Maternity Session | Seattle Maternity Photographer
I often get asked, “What do you ‘do’ for a maternity session?”
I decided to break it down. What do I do? For starters, I take photos of an expecting mom and her family. It really doesn’t differ that much from a Family Photography Session, but it is a little more intimate. I like to begin the session in the home where everyone is most familiar and comfortable and then play in the yard or a nearby park. I love these sessions because there is a rawness to them in the emotional connection between people. You see a readiness for a huge transition. You see hope. The excitement, the spirit of anticipation in the whole family about this new baby who will be coming home to them so soon makes maternity sessions so special to me.
Some of my favorite thoughts on Maternity:
“The moment a child is born, the mother is also born. She never existed before. The woman existed, but the mother, never. A mother is something absolutely new.” and so in you the child your mother lives on and through your family continues to live… so at this time look after yourself and your family as you would your mother for through you all she will truly never die.” – Osho
“Sometimes when you pick up your child you can feel the map of your own bones beneath your hands, or smell the scent of your skin in the nape of his neck. This is the most extraordinary thing about motherhood – finding a piece of yourself separate and apart that all the same you could not live without.” – Jodi Picoult
“Life is always a rich and steady time when you are waiting for something to happen or to hatch.” ~E.B. White, Charlotte’s Web, Chapter XXII: A Warm Wind
