As I walked into her home I almost tripped over the stunning sunshine that beamed across the floor. A rare thing for us Pacific North-westerners.

I was nervous. This project means a lot to me. Her story means a lot to me.

Rewind to a month ago: A maternity shoot I did turned into something big- something more. I wanted practice doing indoor maternity stylized shoots. I had no experience. I also wanted to do maternity different and special the first time I did it as I have really struggled with the idea of “Maternity”. Click here to see the shoot.

After that shoot when out to the masses – it got a response that I could have never predicted. Women called – women wrote and asked me more more. More stories of women having these raw and real experiences. Please open a dialogue about loss.  Thus became the Phoenix Photography Project. Together with brave women who want to heal even just a little bit through catharsis… telling their story something so intimate so painful and sharing it with the world.

While some of these photographs may mean nothing to you – each one is a piece of her journey.  As well I am honored to call our Project – Phoenix which is the name of her daughter she lost but will never be forgotten. May Phoenix and all the babies who were named and those unnamed never be forgotten and may their stories FOREVER be told.

And so I  begin my journey in photographing these brave strong women in a lifestyle portrait style.

Please check out the first every post on Phoenix Photography Project.
