It Keeps Getting Better
Day in the Life Christmas Session
Somethings get better with age: wine, cheese, and Christmas. Christmas as a kid was nothing short of magical. The lights, the presents, the surprise…What could be better? And then you become a teenager. Suddenly, Christmas is just another day but with boom boxes (showing my age). Then you’re an adult and Christmas is filled with parties, drinks, but the magic has dissipated. It seems to be lost amongst the hustle and bustle.
But then something miraculous happens. You have a child. Christmas is reborn. As her eyes glimmer and sparkle in the reflection of the Christmas tree, it hits you. Now this is Christmas. It’s what the holidays are all about. Dare I say, providing the magic is even better than being in it yourself. Your beginning, middle and end are all wrapped up in this beautiful bow. This is the Christmas pinnacle. But even then, it’s sometimes easy to lose those moments as we scramble to shop, wrap, decorate, and bake.
In my own life, and as a photographer, I see the busyness of the season. I see how we run to and fro to make everything just right for the ones we love. But you know what? When you are present and engaged, you are enough. Your love and laughter is enough. You can provide the magic of Christmas. Your kids will remember the joy you shared, the traditions you created, and one day, the cycle will continue with their own children.
I was thrilled to capture this Day in the Life Christmas Session. It was so lovely to shoot as this family celebrated their Christmas traditions in their own home. There’s something so real about it- the Christmas jammies, the ginger bread cookies, and the family bonding. It all makes my heart soar with the spirit of the season.
It’s a wonderful life, indeed.
