Two Vibrant Munchkins | Many Vibrant Photos!
I don’t shoot weddings. (Awkward intro, I know.) The truth is I do shoot weddings, but only ones that I think gel with me. This usually equates to one a year at best. It’s kids I love to shoot. Hmm. Let me rephrase. Photograph. I love to photograph kids. This session was really great for me. I got monster hugs, tugs and giggles.
FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY FACT:
Parents are not in charge of children’s smiles. Photographers are.
However, photographers are not responsible for running after kiddos who are not interested or listening.
If the kid is present and half listening, it is the photographer’s job to capture that half attentive gaze. In fact, photos turn out better if you (yes, you, mom and dad!) are relaxed and turn your parenting buttons off. Maybe even have a shot. Or two. It is the photographer’s job to get smiles that will make your shoot special. It is the photographer’s job to create a relaxing and fun atmosphere. I was not good at this when I started. I soon eventually realized it was important and necessary. I really believe this.
Experienced photographers will have many tricks up their sleeve to capture fun, love, joy and connection.
A good (family) photographer will do this. A great family photographer should be your kids best friend after the session.
I left this session with two new best friends and it filled my heart up. These two kiddos are so full of love and life. It was palpable. I got hugged and even attacked (with love, of course.) I secretly wanted to roll in the grass with them the whole time.
Enjoy.
