Dancing at the Beach
I certainly love a challenge as a West Seattle Family Photographer. What could possibly be more amazing and more difficult than twins? Toddler twins. Family photography with twin toddlers is no joke! Toddlers are a whirlwind, ball of energy and emotion. Put two of them together and it’s like electricity in all of the most amazing ways. If you want a photography challenge, photograph twins from the ages of 12-24 months. You can’t help but come out of it with better endurance and a greater understanding of children. You’ll have a better grasp on what they respond positively to, and even ‘posing’. It is so much fun to watch them play, explore and interact with one another.
I’ve often spoken about the importance of scheduling enough session time, at the right time of day (i.e. not nap time), and preparing adequately so everyone arrives relaxed and happy. These are all important pieces to getting the family portraits you want. However, I want to encourage you to not be afraid of your kids being kids. As long as you are accepting of the final product, you can roll with their joy and curiosity. After all, you are trying to capture who they are today in all of their glory and craziness. Sometimes that means belly laughs, sticking tongues out, and chasing after birds. And you know what? All of those things are beautiful parts of childhood you’ll have tangible forever. So let them flap their wings and let them fly. We’re all more beautiful for it.
