Kirkland, WA Custom Maternity Photography Session
I like to ask my clients before our family sessions, “What is your ideal day?”
Have you ever asked yourself that? What would you do if laundry wasn’t piling up? If that trip to Home Depot was done yesterday (you know, when you meant to do it)? If your never ending to do list suddenly disappeared, what would be your ideal day be with your family?
You can learn a lot about a family based on their answer. This helps me tailor the session entirely to them. It is a look into their lives that surpasses the mundane day to day. It is a window into the soul of their ideal lives. Nobody wants me taking photos of them doing laundry.
After I delve into their dreams, I take images of the family as they are. When I first arrive at their home, even if they are not “camera ready”, I try to sneak some candid shots. I honestly would love to change the industry of family photography to a more intimate and authentic affair. I once did a maternity session and the mom answered the door dressed to the nines, a huge gem necklace sat on her chest and her face totally made up. The husband walked down the stairs to greet me in what I would almost describe a full suit and tie. I was uncomfortable for them. They were beautiful, but inauthentic. I want to capture life. Real life.
There is so much beauty in authenticity. So much joy and ease in being comfortable. This session I recently did in Kirkland was just that. Full of joy, laughing and a family being themselves together. As a result, you see nothing but love and connection. You don’t see fashion choices. You aren’t looking for great make up. You see past it all because love, connection and joy take over.
When there is authenticity in photography, there is a story you can see without having to tell it.
