Engagement Photographer | Seattle to Snoqualmie
I think I scare off a few clients here and there when they inquire about Engagement Photography. They are probably looking for a simple, generic session and when I respond back with a ton of questions, they may feel overwhelmed. I don’t leave any last detail out. I want to know what makes that couple tick. I want to know what they love about each other and then recreate it in art. I go full on cheese ball.
Little do they know this part of their journey is so brief. This is the most selfish their relationship will ever get to be. For now it is all about them. We seem to always be looking ahead to the next step. It’s totally natural. We’re looking forward to the day of the engagement, the wedding day, the honeymoon, then people start asking when you’re going to have kids…The milestones (and questions) never stop. We rarely get to just be, and love the moment for what it is. Engagement photography is all about you, the couple, and your love.
Once I interrogate, erm, learn about the couple, their engagement and life together, I customize a session that creates a narrative about who they are today. What makes them laugh together and hold each other closer?
I want my couples to look back at these images and remember who they were. We so often forget when our lives get in the way. Kids, careers, mortgages. We can forget what made us,well, us. One day when the memories of shopping alone together, sleeping in, and midnight charade games have faded, their photos will read their story aloud to them without anyone ever speaking a word.
“Sometimes it feels like there are so many things in this world we can’t control. Earthquakes, floods, reality shows… But it’s important to remember the things that we can. Like forgiveness, second chances, fresh starts… Because the one thing that turns the world from the longing place to a beautiful place… is love. Love and any of its forms. Love gives us hope… Hope for the New Year.” Sam – New Year’s Eve
