The Life in Your Years
Senior Portrait Photographer
“And in the end it’s not the years in your life that count. It’s the life in your years.” Abraham Lincoln
Who could ever have imagined something so inspirational and applicable was said well over 100 years ago? It’s amazing how history repeats itself. We tend to idealize our own history, but distance ourselves from actual history. Yet here we are trying to inject life in our moments, our days, our years. We’re seeking out all the ways we can make a difference, and make our lives matter. It’s an honorable journey we can pass on to our children. But how?
So many of us parents spend our days running here and there. School, work, meetings, appointments, soccer, dance…You name it, we’ve gotta go to it. Busyness fills our days but it doesn’t fill our hearts. It cannot be said enough that we need slow the hell down. It’s the only way we can pass on that the life we live matters. Stop, breathe, and get outside. Put down your phones, and visit a nature park. Sit, have a picnic and breathe deeply. You will be so in touch with your inner self it might feel beautiful and uncomfortable at the same time. Most of us adults aren’t used to true downtime.
A recent article suggested that technology is as addictive as heroin and yet here we are, our lives revolving around it. To an extent, we can’t escape it but we can protect our kids and we can place limitations and boundaries on it, even for ourselves. I recently was taking a walk with my family in a beautiful park. A double stroller passed us, and both children were glued to a tablet. It hurt something deep inside of me. I do not judge the parents or the children. But it hurt me to know they were missing out on so much beauty around them. Wildlife, trees, water, boats, gentle wind….All nuances that can go missed when life just passes us by.
I hope you take a moment to enjoy this really fun Senior Portrait Photography Session of a very cool and fun Senior from Bellevue High School!
